This Thanksgiving, it may be fitting to reflect with gratitude on the freedoms we enjoy here in America. Back in 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt described four freedoms in his State of the Union address. These four freedoms were later illustrated as oil paintings by America’s celebrated artist, Norman Rockwell.
The four freedoms were:
Freedom of Speech
Freedom of Worship
Freedom from Fear
Freedom from Want
Roosevelt stated that these four freedoms are essential human rights. The paintings were reprinted and soon appeared as posters across America in schools, post offices and public buildings during WWII. The original paintings are publicly displayed today in the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving.
